Virtual Memory

I keep increasing my paging file size and the maximum I
can set it is 120MB. And everytime I restart, the paging
file defaults back to 20MB. My intial size(MB) and
maximum size(MB) stay the same but the effective paging
size always defaults to the 20MB. So every time before
windows starts I receive the message about virtual memory
being too low. Can someone suggest what the initial size
and maximum size should be?

I am running SP 4 with 512MB of physical RAM. Why aren't
my changes holding? I tried to reinstall Windows, but it
said a program has not finished installing, so would not
complete the reinstallation. This has happened before and
my computer completely crashed and I was forced to do a
clean install of Windows.

I recently ran AdAware and then a defrag of the OS
partition. My next restart is when the problems began
(thought this might help if there are issues with these
programs).

Thanks for any help

Microsoft recommends the following. Minimum size should
be 1.5 times RAM (512 x 1.5 = 768). The Maximum size
should be twice the minimum size (768 x 2 = 1536). You
may want to move the paging file (recommended) to another
partition or drive so it is not on the same partition or
drive where the W2K operating system files are located.
Once you create a new paging file on another partition or
drive you can go back and zero out the minimum and maximum
size at the original location. milt

You probably need to disable the ADAWARE prior to
attempting settings changes. I know I have run up against
similar problems with Norton virus protection programs.
