Virtual Memory Too Low

G

George

I get the following message while the system is sitting
idle sometimes:

Your system is low on virtual memory. Windows is
increasing the size of your virtual memory paging file.
During this process, memory requests for some
applications may be denied.

I never get this during startup or shutdown. Sometimes if
I leave it booted overnight I see this message the
following day.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you have a program that has a memory leak of some sort since it
happens while the system is seemingly idle. In that situation a program
could be grabbing a little bit of RAM every minute, but not releasing it
when it's done with it, until it's eaten a huge chunk and you get those
messages. Right click your task bar, choose task manager, switch to the
processes tab and sort by "Mem Usage" to see if anything stands out...

That message is telling you, "Your RAM is full, we've been using your
virtual memory (file on your hard drive) to simulate more memory, but now
that's full too, so we're making it bigger..."
