I have 6gb memory, one hard disk for OS and Programs, one for images, one for
the photoshop temp file, and one spare i've tried but is it possible to
force the OS to put the pagefile on the spare drive tp speed things up when I
use large files in photoshop or just put an extra one on the spare drive and
live with it???

Read here for information about whether to move the page file and how
to do it: "Virtual Memory in Windows XP" by the late MVP Alex Nichol
at http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm

However, are you running 64-bit XP? If it's 32-bit, you can not use
the entire 6GB of RAM you have, and the actual amount is more like
3.1GB.

Assuming that you are running 64-bit Windows and using your entire 6GB
of RAM, it's highly likely that you almost *never* use the page file
at all, and making changes to it will not "speed things up" nor do
anything else for you.

Actually youre best bet is to have the page file on 2 hds,set to "Let
system manage"
xp will use the 2nd hd more often by default.
