Virtual Memory low

When I use some extensive graphical & mathematical software I sometimes
get a virtual memory low dialog. How do I increase my virtual memory?

Right Click on "My Computer"
Choose "Properties" --> Advanced --> performance options --> change virtual memory

Add 128MB to what you have for the MAX. value.

You might want to think about increasing the "real" RAM on the system.

I have 512Mb of RAM, I would like to go to 1Gb, but it is RDRAM which is
a small fortune to get.

You should have noted that at the time the system was purchased. Physical RAM is always
preferred vs. Virtual Ram. For one, it is always faster.

Also think about reducing what's loaded in the background so that 512MB isn't wasted with
sh!t like Quick Time Task Manager or other software that remains resident all the time but
is used once in a while or rarely.

I guess in the near future I will either spring for more memory or a new
system with DDR memory. My virus protector and spywear take up a lot of
memory. I have Mcafee installed. When I run this software I will close them.

And lower your security ? -- Not a good idea, especially if your connected to Broadband
Internet.

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to bring Task Manager and select the Performance
Tab. What is the Commit Charge? What was the Peak? What is the processor
speed?

I disconnect the modem when I do that. I also have a hardware firewall.
The Commit Charge is 482104 the Peak was 1377804 and the CPU is 2.6

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to bring Task Manager and select the Performance
Tab, View, Select Columns. Click on the box before Memory Usage and Peak
Memory Usage and OK. Next click on the column header "Peak Mem Usage"
once or twice so that the largest figures in the column appear at the
top. Can you post a list of the items with a Peak Mem Usage over 10,000k
listing the Image Name and the Peak Mem Usage.

Google thread regarding Firefox:

Thunderbird. My Outlook Express only use 2/3 of your memory.

Sun Threat Engine ( CounterSpy)
Have you started the programme since booting or is it in your StartUp
folder to load automatically when you boot?

Counter spy starts on boot, it has active protection, so it needs to start.

Yes I guess if I don't want to unload programs when I run my panorama
software I will have to buy more memory. Counterspy is the program that
Microsoft bought to make Antispywear beta. But Counterspy checks cookies
also. If I unload Firefox I get a huge jump in memory. I hope version
1.5 now in beta 2 will use less memory. Thanks for the help.
