Virtual memory error message

I have a 128 RAM machine with a PIV processor. I told my
boss not to upgrade to XP over professional but we're
doing it anyway.

When I loaded XP Pro on top of w2k Pro I get a message
that I'm out of VM. When I check, the system has set the
VM appropriately for my RAM, but it shows that it is
allocation 0mg for my page file.

Any ideas?

I've let the system configure the VM, I've put in constant
values for the VM. Each time I reboot I get the same
error, there are errors with your VM configuration.
Please go to the system icon and make the necessary
adjustments.

Thanks,
P Cully

You don't have pagefile.sys set to read-only, or
anything odd like that?

Open Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs and look for an entry for
the Intel Application Accelerator. If it is listed then select it and
click on Add/Remove to uninstall it. Reboot the computer and your
problem should be resolved.

And if the Intel Application Accelerator was installed then you should
go to www.intel.com and download the latest version of the Intel
Application Accelerator and install it.

If that does not resolve the problem then see MVP Alex Nichol's
article on Virtual Memory in Windows XP at
http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm especially the section dealing with
problems.

Good luck

Have a read at www.aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm

The standard settings for VM 'system managed' are unfortunate - based
on the quite erroneous "page file should be RAM times 1.5g" formula.
Mostly this is just wasteful, but for a small RAM it leaves the maximum
size page file *way* too small - just where you are going to need a lot
of space. in Control Panel - System - Advanced - Performance Settings -
Advanced - Virtual Memory - Change, select the drive, use Custom, and
I'd suggest an initial size of 400 with a maximum of at least 800. Then
click Set, OK out and reboot.

You will find 128MB glacially slow - remind the boss that it was his
insistence and suggest adding at least another 128, and if you can 256
