Virtual CD - Bug or by Design ?

Couldn't find a more appropriate group to ask about this little problem with
Microsoft's "Virtual CD". freebie.

I've used other virtual CD programs and the virtual CD's stay mounted even
after rebooting or a power off / power on cycle. No need to remount the
drives. But with Microsoft's Virtual CD, any reboot causes the virtual CD's
to be lost and the have to be remounted. Perhaps this is by design - or is
it a bug? Anyone know a fix or another virtual CD program I could use?

Thank you for your replies,

Bob S.

DAEMON Tools

Thanks - I just downloaded it but it has a warning about getting a BSOD if
you have or had Roxio CD Creator. I do and as far as I remember, all WinXP
versions use a Roxio CD program for writing CD's. I'll give it a try on a
test system and see what happens.

Thanks for the quick response,

Thanks for the quick response,

Windows XP and Roxio have no connection that I know of.
I have Roxio (various versions) installed on many of my systems with DAEMON
tools - no problems.

Roxio is not, nor never, delivered with XP. Roxio may make the IMAP module
for the XP but it is not the same as Easy Media(CD) Creator.

Also, please be advised that more programs (especially games) not detect the
"virtual cd" type software and refuse to install or run.

Thanks for the reply. The CD's are not games but are database reference
CD's and work with the Microsoft Virtual CD program.

Shenan,

Thanks for the follow-up. I'll be heading over to the client a bit later
today and will give this a try.

Thank you,

Bob S.

MS supply it solely to install their software that they supply to subscribers in ISO format. It is a courtsy to avoid burning CDs, the official way, to install Ofice, Visual Studio, etc.

Shenan,

I tried Daemon Tools on my WinXP Pro system which also has Easy CD Creator
v5.3.5 installed and it worked fine.
Unfortunately, Daemon Tools only allow for a max of 4 virtual drives and I
need 8. Looks like we'll just have to get out
the crow-bar and pry open the wallet to get a Virtual CD program that works
for this.

Still trying to find out why Microsoft's drops the drive assignments after a
reboot....

Thanks,

Bob S.
