why is virgin media pushing HDTV on cable?

At the moment we only have 1 channel bbc, and sky has 6 on there.

Seen sky has the upper hand with HD channel.
 
Because it's smart business to do so!
And the fact that more HD channels will be going on air shortly.
 
The problem is because so much more bandwidth is required the people still using standard digital channels will lose quality of signal and picture will degrade slightly
