Viewing Precompacted Messages

Windows Mail just "compacted" all messages. Now, I find I cannot access
older emails past just a couple of months ago. How do I access the older
compacted email messages?
 
The messages do not get compacted. Only the database (which has no
messages) gets compacted.

You can check the directory of eml files for the given folder (see
www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm) and see if they are still there, if they are
not listed in WinMail.
