VIEWING PAIN

Is there a way to get rid of the viewing pane under list of received emails
as I can't find a way? I prefer not to have a viewing pane and other email
programmes (Outlook etc) allow you to choose whether you want it open or
closed.

Go to View, click on Layout, and then uncheck Show preview pane.
