Viewing Icons as Images

I recently lost the ability to view .bmp file icons as an
image. In searching around the web for answers, I came
upon some info at pcmag regarding changes you can make to
the registry to view .bmp, as well as other image formats
(.gif, .jpg, etc.). I tried what they suggested, and it
did bring back the .bmp view, but the registry tweaks
don't seem to work on the other image formats. I used to
be able to view pretty much all image types as icons when
I used Win2K - if I'm remembering correctly even Photoshop
extentions (such as .psd?) were viewable as icon images.

One thing I found on my PC which makes me curious is that
none of the common image formats other than .jpg are
listed in HKCR extentions. I had to create new onew
for .bmp, etc. As I said before adding the .bmp key and
the tweak suggested at pcmag worked while the others I
added (.gif, .tif) did not, nor did the tweaks to the
already exisiting .jpg key

Can anyone here give me suggestions on how to get this
feature to work on image files other than .bmp in XP Pro?

Icons are multiple bmp files in a bigger files. So are cursors. Windows will happily use bmp or ico as icons. Other graphic types are not icons whic is why it only wors for bmps.
