How can I view only styles in use and not direct formatting too in a Word
2007 document?

Office button, Word Options, Advanced tab, Editing options, remove the check
next to Keep track of formatting. This takes care of the showing direct
formatting as styles.

To limit just to styles in use, press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S, click Options (at
the bottom of the Styles pane), and set Selected styles to show to In Use.
Note the option at the bottom to set this only for the current document
versus for new documents based on the current template.

Thanks I still don't get the full picture. It seems that when I have the
track option on it shows under style inspection and off it does not. How
does it affect the Style list itselft, I can't see where it does.
Also I cannot delete styles from a document and when I rename them they
retain old and new names.... help appreciated.
Thanks
