Viewing Asian Languages

Hi, I wasn't really sure under which category this should
go so I'm gonna stick with "general."
I installed the Asian Multilingual pack for Word, but
when I open other Chinese/Japanese documents, Word will
not automatically detect the language. I have it set on
auto-detect but whatever I copy or paste in will not
automatically turn into the Chinese or Japanese
characters. Also, when I am in the windows browser and I
pop in a cd names in Chinese, the names of the songs do
not show. It just comes out as a jumble of characters.
Is there any type of viewer that I need so that the Asian
languages will show up? I can type and see what I type,
but I can't view things that were typed by other people.
I have tried installing another Asian Language program
but it ended up freezing my computer every time i try to
access it. I'd really appeciate it if someone can help me
with this or have any other suggestions!!!!

go to Control Panel -> Region and Languages ->Advance ->
Select Chinese or Japanese Language fron the drop down

it will take couple of mins to finish and dows require
reboot as I remember.
