View subreport in design mode

My department has just recently moved to XP. In our old version of MSAccess
(97) the subreport showed as just a rectangular box. It was easy to size,
select and open. We have many subreports that are narrowly sized and butt up
against each other. In the 2003 version, it is very difficult to select the
subreport object because of the new view where you actually see into the
subreport. The scroll bars are all that show and it is tough to select.

Is there any way to change an option somewhere so that the subreport view in
design mode looks the way it did in the '97 version? If not, any hints on
usability? I see I can open the subreport in another window, but that
doesn't help much when the subreport size is small and narrow. It is still
difficult to select.

Thanks!

If you open the subreport in a different window, not within the main report,
you can change the size of the window and make you changes, that won't affect
the size it has in the main report,
