Whenever I try to view a ppt on my computer I only get a
black screen. I can hit enter X amount of times and when I
exit the slide show it seems as though it moves thru the
slides.

Go to Slide Show/Set up Show and see if you're set to display to a monitor
other than "primary monitor."
