View blue screen before it disappears

While re-installing XP, I encounter a blue screen and the
installation re-starts. The blue screen does not remain
long enough to read. I would like to be able to read the
message or, at the very least, stop the installation and
go back to what I had.
 
Hi Ian,

If you've already started the installation, then you likely will not be able
to go back to what you had. How far into the installation do you get before
this error occurs? Were you doing a full reinstall or a repair installation?
Did you start by booting the CD or from within the existing installation?
Have you disabled any antivirus protection (from both within WinXP and any
bios-level antivirus detection schemes)?
