Video skips / stutters after 3-4 minutes of playback

Hi all,

I'm hoping you can help me with this problem: playback of
any video type results in stuttered video and audio after
approximately 2-5 minutes of playback. This occurs
whether it is a DVD player being played through PowerDVD
or an .avi or .mpeg file being played through Windows
Media Player. The stuttering continues until the mouse is
moved. Then it stops and plays normally for another 2-5
minutes before stuttering again.

So far I have attempted the following:

1. Reinstallation of the drivers for the Liteon CD-ROM /
DVD drive
2. Dusting of the Liteon CD-ROM / DVD drive (I originally
thought it might be a hair or something)
3. Reinstallation of the drivers for the Nvidea GeForce4
MX 440 card
4. Numerous virus, trojan and worm scans
5. System defrag
6. Reinstallation and upgrade of both PowerDVD and
Windows Media Player

My next step will probably be to move the contents of my
c: drive over to my e: drive and do a full reinstall of
Windows XP Professional.

If anyone has any insight into what could be causing this
problem, please let me know. You can reply to the post
here or e-mail me at (e-mail address removed). I'm ready to
start pulling out my hair, so even the smallest suggestion
would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Ali

Virtual Memory settings.

Caching in the video play-back softwares.

Hard drive and DVD play should not be connected onto the same IDE cable.
