A friend asked me to look at his PC. It's an HP and windows was having
a hard time starting. I'll spare the details but basically to fix it, I
inserted the XP CD and run the option to repair an existing install.
Everything was good to go again... but during the process a message
came up along the lines of it was going to change the video settings.
The only button it offered was OK.
Now it's stuck on 1024x768 with 8-bit color. Of course the 8-bit color
looks horrid and it won't allow me to change this. I'm not using his
monitor on it, but my own instead, which is a relatively new flat
screen. Windows shouldn't have detected it as a ghetto monitor, yet
8-bit color is my only choice.
If I go into the Advanced display settings, the Monitor tab shows only
"Default Monitor" and the Properties button to change it is disabled,
which I've never seen happen before.
I tried repeating the process with different monitors. No change. What
the heck do I do now? TIA
