Video score

Vista is giving a 3.5 score on a ATI Radeon 9600 LE 8X AGP/w 256MB RAM. It
got me a little disappointed. What kind of card was I supposed to get for a
better score? I was shooting for 4.00, so I'm off by a half. The video drags
it down, but at least I have Aero.

Thank you.

The 'LE' is a cheaper version of the 9600 series. The XT or the Pro
versions I believe are better, and they would probably give you a better
rating - possibly '4'. To get 4's, I believe you'll need the X-series Ati
cards My Ati Radeon X1600 PRO AGP 8x GDDR2 256MB video RAM is getting 4.4
for graphics and 4.9 for gaming graphics. I wouldn't get too upset about
the performance rating tool anyway because what matters is how *you* feel
your video card is running Aero Glass, not what Windows Experience Index
thinks. Your 9600 LE might struggle a bit on resolutions of 1280x1024 and
higher for Glass. My Aero Glass performance even with this card gets a tad
on the slow side from time to time, but not as bad as it did with Beta 2,
and then again, I'm still using beta drivers that are less than quality.
Performance is "smooth as glass" 95% of the time. The performance doesn't
seem to degrade any on my video card even after increasing my resolution to
1600x1200 from 1280x1024.

I have a 5.9 in Graphics and 4.9 in Gaming Graphics with an ATI X800XT.
My processor P4 3.4E GHz Prescott is my limiting factor of 4.3.

Build 5744 RC2 gives a 3.6 for GeForce 6200 AGP8x /128MB

Nvidias 3rd Party Driver for RC2 installed of Course.

The driver do matter - Windows' own Graphic Driver won't give a very high
Rating.I think Ati isn't that good with driver development when it comes to
Vista.

When I first had installed Vista with no extra drivers on, I had a Rating in
total of 2.2, after all drivers had been installed and I rerun the assesment
tool I now have a total rating of 3.0 on my old Socket A,self-assembled very
cheap machine :
Asrock K7VT4A Pro / AMD Duron 1,8GhZ / 1024 DDR200 RAM /7200rpm Maxtor 120
GB HD / AOPEN 16X DVDRW - Graphics see above.

Runs Vista wih Aero and Games like the Sims2 very well and comes near to the
Speed of XP on the same machine.

More I don't need to be happy with Vista - I think my PC could legally have
a sticker "Vista Premium Ready" on it ;)
