does this happen for all types of movies? or is it just mpeg and divx
There is a little program called divx anti-freeze which you would be able to find from google that should prevent these screen freezes. Normally though the frame would freeze, but would not go black..the audio does continue
Another possible cause is that the screen saver is causing this problem. Try disabling the screen saver and see if that cures the problem. If it is the screen saver then you should look for the option to disable screensaver whilst using media player (within its options) or maybe change the type of screen saver to one which doesn't use the overlay.
