When I switch between one user and another I get a moving box saying 'Video
mode not suported' and there is no way of proceeding except for manually
turning off and starting again.
Can anyone help?
thanks

This MIGHT be your display's response to that account being set for a
vertical refresh rate or screen resolution the display does not support.

Check the display's user manual to see what vertical refresh rates at
what resolutions it supports. If you can't find the manual check the
manufacturer's web site, as they might have the manual there in
electronic form.

If the problem is the vertical refresh rate you MIGHT be able to reduce
it to a rate compatible with the display from any account with
administrative rights. Many graphic accelerators have independent
vertical refresh rate settings for each resolution. However, you might
have to start the operating system in safe mode to see the screen and
access the display settings in the account having the problem. You might
have to try several times to access the menu that allows you to boot the
OS in safe mode by pressing the keyboard's F8 key while booting the OS.

Right click the Windows desktop to see the context menu. Click
"Properties" on the context menu and the "Settings" tab on the resulting
pop-up window. the "Screen Resolution" setting is on the left. You can
USUALLY reach the vertical refresh settings through the "Advanced"
button on the right. Specific instructions aren't feasible because the
"advanced" settings are typically provided by a driver written by the
manufacturer of the video accelerator, thus the pup-up windows may vary.
