video display - grey missing from scroll bars ??

hi all,

this is very odd.. a friend has his daughter do "something" to his
computer, we're not sure what, but the video display has been screwed up
ever since.. she had done something on bootup I think, she had called
and there was the dos like configuration screen there and she chose the
option to go back to default settings I think..

When I checked this out last night it was displaying only 16 colors, and
in Word when trying to type he had a black bar where he was trying to
type, when I highlighted that area, I got white letters on black, (this
was not something that was changed in Word), so I reinstalled the video
drivers and now have 32bit True color, but the most obvious thing I
found was that in MSWord and Quickbooks, (the two programs he uses most)
the scroll bars are missing the middle tone gray color, so all I'm
seeing is the black outline on the right and bottom of the bars.. ??
In the typing area the letters are back to being black on white background.

I'm more used to Win98, but I checked all the settings I could find in
the Display Properties Window, I must have missed something though.
Any ideas?

thanks,
niteowl

Niteowl,

Not sure if I understand you correctly, but have you tried resetting the
"Appearance" to a standard color scheme?

yes, I did do that, I believe the setting I chose was "windows standard"
but don't remember now, are they the same in win98 as they are in win2000?

I'll check again to be sure.

thanks,
niteowl
