video clip + black box + still

In PPT 2003, working on presentation with video clips (WMV format). When I
insert video clip, a black box appears. I need for a still photo to be on top
of it so that it doesn't show as a black box, but I cannot set video to
automatically start as it needs to start/stop on a mouse click. When I insert
still photo on top of video, I can't start video with mouse click. Is there
any way to make this happen? Someone suggested linking them somehow, but I
can't figure out how to do that. This is also going to be a print piece, so
we can't have the black box, and unfortunately, PPT and booklet need to match.

Start the video with a trigger animation -- trigger it upon click of the
still image.

Great! This did work, but another problem arises that I haven't been able to
fix. Click on photo and the video starts now that I'm "triggered." But if I
try to start and stop video, it takes me to the next slide rather than just
pausing for a moment. Is there a way to do that?

Check your animation settings. Does the video itself have a trigger
animation to pause? It should.

To see what I mean, open a new blank presentation and Insert/Movie/From
File. When prompted, say yes to play automatically. Now go look at the
animation settings. See how the movie animation is set up? Look especially
at the pause trigger that happens upon click of the movie itself.

I think that's what you want (in addition to the trigger start upon click of
the picture), although I admit I haven't tried it -- and it could be that
instead of the picture just being an extra way to start the movie, it's
interfering with the other animation settings on the movie. If that's the
case, you will have to remove the auto start from the movie, but I'm pretty
sure you can still set the pause trigger upon click of the movie itself.

I'm forever in your debt! After I checked out what you meant with the pause
trigger, and incorporated that into my project, it worked perfectly! Thank
you, thank you, thank you. You saved me from another gut-wrenching,
hair-pulling day!
