Video Card Installation Problems

I had installed a GeForce FX 5200 PCI several months back and it has just
recently come to my attention that it has been installed incorrectly. It was
my first install and I don't know how to fix the issue. The problem seems to
be that the Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics was not uninstalled properly
and both adapters, 3D accelerators, etc., seem to be active or causing a
conflict.

I am running on Windows XP Home, the drivers for the hp motherboard and card
are up to date but I need help in what steps I should take. I have tried
uninstalling the Intel Extreme Graphics but when I restart they are found as
new hardware. I have tried to disable the adapter as well but for some reason
it seems like the GeForce is tied into that adapter now. Some functionality
problems have also been happening such as my monitor will black out in some
cases such as when the computer is turned on and when I right click certain
icons.

So my question is; what steps do I take to fix this improper installation?

What you have to do is get into the Bios and disable your Intel
Extreme Graphics chip. Hopefully you still have your
computer manual that will show you how to do that. If not go to
HP's website. Once the chip is disabled, rt click on
MyComputer>select Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>Display
Adaptor>rt click on yours and choose uninstall.
Also, go to Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the
Nvidia Driver. Restart and reinstall the Nvidia driver.

First of all, I've seen no way to actually "disable" the onboard graphics,
only set the primary as PCI which it was already at. I uninstalled the
adapter in the device manager and also uninstalled the drivers for both
onboard and PCI in Add/Remove program.

When I restarted, it still finds the onboard graphics as new hardware, and
even when I say no to it being installed it say it wasn't done correctly but
I guess it was still installed because I checked the device manager and it is
back. I checked the add/remove programs and the onboard driver is also back.
So really, nothing has changed.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Any further advice?

Thank you.

Read your manual! There may be a jumper that you have to change to disable
on-board graphics. But, it is usually done in the bios! Again, this would be
explained in the M/B manual.
