Video capture no audio

On a new HP M1280N am not able to capture audio from VCR plugged in to
composite on front. The video comes fine. Was told by HP that it is a
Microsoft problem and other computers are having same problem. I have the
same problem when using Nero Vision 4.
Thanks.

I just got a Gateway desktop with Media Center and all that I thought that I
needed to transfer video (and sound) from my analog video camera (JVC), the
machine has an Hauppage sound card.
Movie Maker does not give you option to use composite Audio (front or back),
it only has Line in and Microphone options.
Get an RCA to mini "Y" adaptor (Mono or Stereo depending on the device used
to input signal to the computer) and connect it to the LINE IN (front or
back) of the computer, then select the apropriate Line In on the Movie Maker
program.
I went to the Hauppage web site and found their recomendation to use an
adaptor due to the lack of composite audio input from the Movie Maker program.
I have not tried other video/audio capture programs, but if they have the
option to use composite audio, then you should be able to use them.
