VIA AC97 sound card

I cannot train my microphone at all.
I have installed Office XP so I have the speech
recognition engine however I still cannot get to the
advanced settings of the microphone. The tone controls
are greyed out and I cannot get to them no matter what I
do. Please help

Just a shot in the dark ::Look in Computers>Properties>Hardware>
Device Managers under Sound., to see if sound card is enabled and
working. Joe R.
