very slow shutdown

Hi,

I have recently noticed that when I shutdown my machine it takes around 1-2
minutes for the stand by/turn off/restart window to appear with the
hourglass symbol being displayed which is movable but no other function is
possible. Shutdown when it does appear is extremely slow. I tried running
windows task manager prior to shutting down and this stops updating as soon
as I hit the "turn off computer" icon and doesn't restart until the window
appears. I cannot directly link this behaviour to SP2 as the behaviour only
occurs after the machine has been logged in for a while. After initially
logging in the appearance of the window is almost instantaneous but at some
point this behaviour starts. I have Nortin AV and Firewall running both of
which are up to date. I've run spybot 1.3 and there is nothing to be of
concern.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have the same slow shutdown about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes to shutdown.

This happened right after SP2 was installed. Makes no difference if system
has been on a long or short time.

No other problems with SP2 except this.

Anyone know what the system is doing during this long shutdown & are there
many others with this problem. Seems like it might be backing up my large
registry but need some advice where to look for a log of what is being done
at shutdown
