Very Slow Performance lately on FrontPage 2002

Greetings,

My website is hosted at Lowesthosting.com. They use an
Apache server running Linux with FrontPage 2002
extentions. I also have FTP files being used on my website.

I am runnning FrontPage 2002 on Windows XP Pro on my home
computer, an IBM Intelistation M Pro with 1 GB ram.

I have Adelphia Powerlink for my ISP and my download
speeds in always around 3 megabites a second.

I have had no problems at all regarding my website
publishing or web service for a year or so.

About a week ago, when I tried to use FrontPage 2002 in
order to access my website and to do online publishing,
and I had extremely slow and degraded performance.

FrontPage 2002 does work and publish to my website, but
everthing is slowed down big time.

Calling up the homepage used to take about 2 seconds and
now it takes 30 seconds.

Clicking on the homepage to move the cursor from one line
to the next line takes about 15 seconds.

Typing in one letter on the homepage, takes about 10
seconds for the letter to appear on the screen.

The problems appear to be on my computer locally because
any action on FrontPage 2002 in very slow. It is not just
the online publishing to the server.

Doing a Save used to take 2 to 3 seconds. Now a Save
takes about a 1 minute.

I have run setup again for FrontPage 2002 and that went OK.
But, it did not fix anything.

I have downloaded and installed the latest updates for
Office.

Windows XP Pro has been doing all the automatic updates.

I suspect a recent automaitc update to XP Pro to have
caused the problems with my slow performace on FrontPage
2002.

Everything else on my IBM Intelistation has had no change
in performance in any way.

Internet Explorer is fine. My website works the same as
always on Internet Explorer. And all other Office
applications work fine.

Should I start to delete the recent Windows XP Pro
automatic updates?

Could you give me the number of a possible suspect Windows
XP Pro update, that I may want to delete?

Should I run setup again on Windows XP Pro and do a repair?

Are there any Microsoft diagnois programs that can be run?

Do a file search for files named *.web and delete
all that are found.
Then search for *.tmp and delete all found.
Then clear your browser History, Cookie and Temporary Internet files.
Then defrag the hard drive.

See if that helps.

Thanks Steve, I did the things you suggested with no
change in performance of FrontPage 2002.

I do not know what to do next.

Is it better to reformat the hard drive and reinstall
Windows XP Pro and all the application software including
FrontPage 2002?

I need to get to some kind of solution, to get FrontPage
up and running again as normal.

Can any Microsoft admin suggest any action to get to an
end result that works.

I have done a detect and repair on FrontPage 2002 and it
did not help.

What is the best way to run a diagnosis in Windows XP Pro.

If reformating the hard drive and reinstalling everything
is the way to go, then so be it. I will have to waste a
day or so to get up and running again.

Did you ever get any resolutions to this problem? I am a new user of FrontPage 2002. A month after I started using it to edit a new Website (not yet published), my computer started experiencing serious problems and I bought a new one with Home XP operating system and Office software. I reinstalled FrontPage on this new computer, and now it doesn't work the way it did with the decrepit ME operating system. It's extremely slow, won't let me edit with FrontPage from the Website, won't open some files, etc.

So I'm wondering if you found a solution because it might help me. Thanks!

Did your new machine come with Norton Anti Virus??
If so, disable the portion that scans every file every time it's
opened and closed. This feature will bring XP
to a crawl.
Also, how much RAM is in the machine??
Anything less than 512MB in an XP machine
< imho > is not enough.

( I went through the exact same problem with
an XP machine here in the office )
