very slow opening of programs

can anyone please help, for the past few days my system
has got slower and slower at opening and running programs,
sometimes when i try to open programs like system restore
it just doesn't open, i've run norton antivirus but not
found anything, i've tried defragmenting drive but that
hasn't helped either. i'm running on an athlon 1.7gig
processor, 512meg memory and 80 gig hard drive that is
still 70 percent free so i don't think it is a memory or
processor problem HELP!

IF you recently purchased and installed Norton
Systemworks 2004, this could be your problem. I
experienced this same problem. I contacted Symantec and
they stated that Yes this version can and will slow down
your system. They are working to correct this but....I
sent it back to them and re-installed NSW 2003 and my
system is back to normal performace.
