Windows Explorer is Very Slow

Just completed building a P5P800 system with a 3.4 GHz Pentium Processor, a
Maxtor 320G Diamond Max 10 Drive, an ATI 9600 XT Video Card, 1G of Kingston
DDR 400 memory (dual channel), etc. The Maxtor Drive is connected to the
Primary SATA Port on the MB.

I also have a P4PE System with a 2.53 GHz Pentium, two Maxtor 60G drives, an
ATI 9000 Pro Video Card and 512Meg of memory, etc. The Maxtor Drives are
connected via a Promise PATA 133 external PCI controller card.

Both Systems are running Windows XP SP2 with almost identical software
installed.

The P5P800 System, at least when using Windows Explorer, is considerably
slower than the old reliable P4PE system. Both systems show the left side
folder information instantaneously, however the right side file information
is almost instantaneous on the P4PE but takes approximately 3 seconds to
show on the P5P800! It does not seem to matter how may files are in the
folder. One or a hundred files, it still takes 3 seconds. The Maxtor
Diamond Max 10 Drive was in the P4PE system connected to the onboard Promise
Raid Controller (Raid array of one) and ran extremely fast. I repartitioned
and reformatted the drive with Partition Magic 8.0 after installing it in
the P5P800 System.

I have run various diagnostic programs and they all say the P5P800 System is
much faster that the P4PE System. Therefore, it would apear to be something
specific to Windows Explorer.

Anybody got any ideas on what is going on with the P5P800 System? Help would
be appreciated.

I downloaded and ran Magellan Explorer (Windows File Manager Replacement) and
it performed just fine - no 2-3 second delay to show file details.
Therefore, I got to conclude it's something with Windows Explorer. Since I
get no input on this issue, does anybody out there have a suggestion on who
to ask next?!!
