Very Slow oading of Add/Remove List

Suddenly it takes a very long time (over 2 min) for the list of installed
programs to load via Control Panel/Add Remove Programs. This never took more
than about 30 seconds before. Only recent changes are Windows Updates?

Thank you. That thread indicates that a problem with an external HDD could
cause this and that is exactly what happend to me. I have an external Maxtor
250MB HDD that appears to have died. When I disconnect it, the Add/Remove
list appears in 20 seconds.
