VERY SLOW loading OL XP

MVPs, you perform a terrific service for us slow-learners and I am grateful
for the help.

I am encountering incredible difficulties with OL XP. Using SP3, so I think
all is current. I run on a Dell laptop with 384MB RAM. Using Norton
Antivirus and the K9 spam filter --neither of which has caused a problem to
my knowledge. Here are my issues.:

1. Unbelievably slow loading. It can take 5-10 minutes (no exaggeration) for
OL program to load. In Task Manager the process runs up to about 10MB and
stalls. Eventually it will load in full, but it takes FOREVER!

2. OL keeps adding new "personal folders" to the folder list. I have seen as
many as six that I had to delete using the File Maintenance procedure

3. I get a message occasionally that says the Archives.PST file didn't close
properly and is being checked for errors. (None ever found to my knowledge)

4. Duplicate messages: I frequently get two copies of the same e-mail
message. I have only one email account set up in OL.

5. Occasional window that says OL is not configured, and asking me to chose
a .pst file. I click on the correct file and the program loads OK

6. Often get "not responding" errors when I click on an e-mail message. I
wait 20-30 seconds, and it clears up on its own.

I have run AdAware and Spybot to get rid of all that stuff. Have used the OL
"detect and repair" process and use Norton WinDoctor to clear up any
registry errors.

I still have my copy of Office 2000, which I am inclined to revert
to --since I don't recall these problems wiht the earlier version of OL. If
I do so, are there any compatibility isuses with Word documents, etc.?

First of all, did any of these problems occur before you applied SP3 to
Office XP? Second, what kind of CPU does the computer use?
