OL XP: LOOONG load time, frequent "not resopnding" error

B

Bob Igel

Using OL XP on a Dell laptop with 384 MEG RAM. OL frequently locks up (get
the old "not responding" msg on Windows Task Mgr). When I shut it down and
reload OL, it can take as long as 3-4 minutes (no kidding) before the
program even starts to load.

i have cleaned up the registry with MS RegClean...removed any and all
spyware. No change. I have been using SA Proxy Pro as an anti-spam filter,
but even with it disabled, OL still locks up frequently.

Have used the "detect and repair" option in OL, downloaded and installed all
updates, even re-loaded Office XP. Still get the same problem.

Big qustion is, what am I missing if I retreat to OL 2000, which worrked
perfectly before I upgraded?

thanks

Bob in Atlanta.

Close Outlook. Find and rename outcmd.dat to .old. (If using Windows 2000
or XP, you will need to enable searching hidden and system folders.)

Once you have done so, reopen Outlook and it should open fine. You will
need to rebuild any custom toolbars or customizations as the file outcmd.dat
controls how the toolbars display. When it becomes corrupted, it will cause
Outlook to hang because it cannot create the toolbars that you expect.
