Very Simple Question

Help !
This may sound unbelievably silly but I can not sort it out.
I want to type 1-10 in an excel cell but everytime I do that it
converts it to a date. How do I stop this?

Adios, format the cell as text before you enter the data or put a ' in front
of it, the ' will not show
