Very new to XPe

All

I investigating the use of XPe SP2 in a solution for a potential client,
however with not much knowledge I realise I am on a steep learning curve.

The requirement of the clients is to have a bootable CD, that can
potentially be used on any desktop computer device. The CD would auto boot,
connect to the network and receive IP information.

Once on the network, the user would launch a wrapper application that would
prompt the user for their credential(s) two factor SecureID / Active
Directory username/password and then initiate a VPN connection.

Once connected, the wrapper application would automatically launch a
Terminal Services / Citrix session.

First questions - Has anybody heard of something like this before and is it
at all possible ?

If it is, where would I go to start on something like this - Im thinking
direct to Microsoft ???

Any help is appreciated

Regards,

Sean

Hi Sean,

Bootable CD. Search for information about EL-Torito.
In case that you have problems with some BIOS-es then consider RAM boot from SDI file that is loaded from CD or from network for
that matter.
If it is, where would I go to start on something like this - Im thinking
direct to Microsoft ???

Thanks for the quick reply....

I should have mentioned that I have done a fair amount of reading, but
things have so far indicated that you would make an image for a particular
HAL and then able to load up additional drivers for video etc.

My questions are around any potential hardware, obviously draw the line in
the sand and say Intel processor and that about all we could define.

have you heard of anything like this being developed before ?

Cheers

Hi Sean,

What do you plan to use?

"Standard PC" kernel/hal will work on all computers.
"ACPI Multiprocessor" will work on all ACPI computers. (both single and multi processor based)

Intel or AMD processor do not make so much difference as long as you provide few extra files mostly for chipset support.
Anyhow if you have all driver files in place required to support all your hardware then PnP will pick them up during the boot and
install them.

Read this long thread and you might find enough info that you need:
