Vertical Lines on the left side of screen.

I've noticed recently that there are blue vertical lines
on the left side of my screen. The lines are very thin,
and appeared about a week ago. Since then, 1 more line
has joined them to make 3, and one continues to change
color. Yesterday it was green, now it is yellow. The
lines obstruct the start menu as well as my games and
movies, but when I load a regular application in windows
they are covered up. Can someone tell me how to solve

Try changing your background on the desktop and see if the lines are still
there. Also have you scanned for viruses recently?
