For some reason when I go to "View Grid and Guide..." then check the box on
"display drawing guides on screen". I get the horizontal guide but not the
vertical. How can I get this to show?

Any help will be truly appreciated!

There is a possibility that the primary vertical guide got placed far off
the slide image. Try reducing the slide view zoom to 10% and see if it
isn't hiding.

I reduced to 10% but it didn't show the primary vertical line. Any other
suggestions before I reload Powerpoint?

It might still be there. Look right along the very edge of the slide for a
dashed line. Sometimes the guides get dragged off the slide, but the very
edge is as far as they will go--and it can be really hard to see it unless
you're looking for it.

Still nothing, although, when I switch views from normal to notes page the
vertical guide shows up.

I found the solution. As Bill said, reduce the view to 10% make sure the
ruler is showing in the screen and click in the gray area just under the "0"
