Vbscript.DLL - or how to drive someone crazy

B

Baindamaged

I managed to mess up my brand new computer in record time. After
loading Microsoft office I tried to load Mcafee virus protection. Since
Norton was running at the time it seems the two duked it out and my
computer lost. After some scary times (freezing, blue screen of death
etc.) I managed to do a system restore to a date before the software
load. When I reloaded office, Outlook wouldn't work. Came up with -
"Failed to register a VB Script DLL. Reinstall or run Regsvr32.exe
Vbscript.dll to self register. The key 'Display name' is either
missing or has an incorrect value. [File C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office 10\forms\1033\SECREC(2).CFG, Section Description]".
I've tried reloading office after uninstall.(A few times)
Changing vbscript.dll to vbscript.dll.old and doing a repair.(No)
Doing a run regsvr32.exe vbscrit.dll (Said it worked- it didn't)
Tried some software from another group- (computer blocked it.)
I've seen this error in lots of places but never seen anything to fix
the problem. Sorry so longwinded but lots of data to pass on. So I'd
like to say, "HELP!!!"

HI,
have you already make changes in the registry?
Got this registry entry from another forum.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"AllowWindowReuse"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InternetShortcut\shell\Open In New Window\command]
@="rundll32.exe shdocvw.dll,OpenURL %1"

I'm not that technical. About 95% of what you said made no sense to me.
Could you explain that a little more? I appreciate the effort.
Thanks,

Thanks,

Okay,
Close Outlook
please open your regestry

start > run > regedit > ok

navigate to the following key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
On the right side you will see the "AllowWindowReuse" DWord.
Doublclick on it and set it to 0 > OK

Than navigate to the following key
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InternetShortcut\shell\Open\command
On the right side you will see the "(Standart) DWord.
Doubleclick on it and write
rundll32.exe shdocvw.dll,OpenURL %1
in it.

Close the registry and restart Outlook.

Maybe I'm missing a file? I did as you said, but when I entered main,
there were a lot of files, but no "AllowWindowsReuse" There were 4
files associated with DWord:
Addtofavoritesexpanded
Nojitsetup
Niupdatecheck
Use custom search URL

I went into the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and doubleclicked on the only file
under "Command". (AB Default) It showed rundll32.exe
shdocvw.dll,OpenURL %1 already in the box, I didn't have to type it.
?????

HI again,
its okay when you dont have to type it in.
But the first one.
Please insert it to the right side such as i have posted before.
Right click > NEW > Dword >AllowWindowsReuse>0
So maybe this could be the solution

I feel like a Truck Driver doing Brain Surgery, with about the same
results.

I entered the new file- No good
Tried restarting computer-No Good
I tried the change the vbscript.dll to vbscript.dll.old and doing a
repair again- no good.
Appreciate your efforts, anything else you can think of to try?
