Hi, I'm looking to do something very similar to a mail merge - this may be
the solution I have to use - however I just wanted to hear from others out
there if there is another way to do this!

I have a document which I need to write - it's a tutorial on how to use a
particular content management system which we've just developed.

However we're unsure on the final name and a few other variables.... "module
titles etc"

Is there a way to write a document, but have VARIABLETAGS within the document?

Which I can update at the end? - It would also allow me to repackage the
tutorial for each server I install it on, with the unique information of the
server...

Is mail merge the best and easiet way to carry this out?

Thank you for any suggestions you can put forward.

No, mail merge is overkill for what you want.

Go to File > Properties > Custom. Enter a name, such as Module Title, enter
a value, and click the Add button. Repeat for any other variables you want
to have, then click OK. This creates custom document properties with the
names and values you supplied.

In the document, wherever you want the value of a custom property to appear,
insert a DocProperty field. For example, with the cursor at the proper place
in the text, click Insert > Field, select DocProperty from the list of field
names, and select Module Title from the list of property names, then click
OK.

If the terminology changes, go back to the File > Properties > Custom
dialog, select the name of the property, type the new value, click the
Modify button, and click OK. In the document, go to Print Preview and back
to the document to update all the fields (this assumes you have checked
"Update fields" in the Tools > Options > Print dialog).

Thank you - this has proved to be a much easier solution to the same problem.

Thank you once again!
