Value Ram... any favorite brands?

Matt

I'm planning to boost my system with a little more ram, but on a budget...
DDR2-4200 "value select" ram to be specific. Does anyone have any
recommendations on manufacturers? I'm looking at Corsair, Kingston and
Crucial at the moment and it looks like Corsair is the cheapest, but I've
never really used Corsair before so I'm just wondering if it would be worth
it to spend a few more dollars on another brand.

I have used Crucial in several computers over the past few years (Intel
MOBOs and CPUs) and never had a problem. I do not attempt to overclock.

I've actually had success/no problems with Mwave's brand memory - 3 sticks
of 333mhz and 6 sticks of 400mhz. Haven't tried any overclocking.

Crucial and Corsair. I've used Crucial on both my machines and Corsair on
some builds I've done for others. Haven't had a reason to complain about
either.

I would check your motherboard manufacturer's site first. They often test a
diversity of memory for each particular board and post a compatibility list.
Sometimes memory with a good general reputation may not work well with a
particular board.

Usually the main issue is the relation between the RAM and the
motherboard. google for documents containing the make/model of your
motherboard and the make/model of the proposed RAM. Search the websites
of both products for compatibility problems. See the reviews at newegg.

DDR2-4200 sounds like bleeding edge, and you may not be able to achieve
more than two of: fast, reliable, cheap.

What do the lights on top of some of the Corsair memory mean?

Unfortunately it's a Dell (my home built system got fried and I could only
afford to finance a system) and I don't think you can look up compatible
brands.
