When I first bought my emachine with WINXP Home Edition and I took in Svd Pk
2. There started the validation so-called "tool" which I allowed to work on
this machine a few times. My OS has been validated and validated and
validated. I've had enough. Now, I can't even open Wiondows Media Player,
much less any of several other MX applications w/out this process being
forced on MY COMPUTER! Microsoft does not own my computer, I do! It may not
be their business to be able to force me to go through this useless
repetition! Is ther a way to turn off this thing? I would really
appreciate it.

You may own your computer, however Microsoft owns the license
for Windows XP that is installed on your computer. If you are having
issues opening programs, you have other issues unrelated to WGA.
You need to be more specific with your problems...

You should certainly start by going to

http://fileforum.betanews.com/download/RemoveWGA/1151081362/1

and downloading the program there.

But be quick, Microsoft are pulling these sites down at a breathtaking
rate.

If they've pulled the site, let me know and I'll post the (perfectly
legitimate) software on Flurl or YourFileHost.

I imagine that any user that does that appreciates that they will
never be able to install anything from Microsoft in the future save
for Critical Security Updates. Your suggestion sounds like an
excellent way to spoil your future enjoyment of what your computer has
to offer.

He told you that the validation process is started when he opens
Windows Media Player. I am not sure what he means by MX applications.
Unless he is updating Windows Media Player I cannot see why validation
should be required.

Actually I would have thought the User owns the Licence granted by
Microsoft. Microsoft have the powers detailed in the Licence to see
that the Terms of the Licence are being observed by the User. However,
I think that many users do not understand this when they "buy" a copy
of Windows XP. They think they have full rights to use their copy of
Windows in any way they want. Of course the terms of the licence are
not written in "Plain English". I am not sure whether the term "Plain
English" carries the same meaning in the USA as the UK.
