Validation List Malfunction

I've got a workbook with one sheet that is misbehaving. When I try t
set up a validation list, the dropdown arrow does not appear when th
cell is selected, and the cell does not function as a dropdown. This i
true no matter what cell I try on that sheet. All of the other sheets i
the workbook work fine for validation lists. Is there a sheet settin
somewhere that would disable validation lists? (Protection is turne
off on the offending sheet)

There was a bug in xl97 that would stop the Data|Validation from working if the
cell was in the top portion of the window after a Window|freeze panes?

Any chance you're using xl97 and have freeze panes turned on?

You sure you have "in cell dropdown" checked?

Otherwise perhaps Dave's answer will cover the problem.

I'm in xl2000, and freeze panes was on when I first tried to set up the
validation list. I tried turning it off and the problem still exists.
'In Cell Dropdown' was checked. The bug may still exist in xl2000. Do
you know of a way to fix it without rebuilding the sheet? (It's got
hundreds of links to other sheets, and would be a real pain to
rebuild).

I just tried another test. Other sheets in the offending workbook with
freeze panes enabled show no problems establishing validation lists in
the upper portion. It's only a problem on one sheet, and the problem
occurs throughout the sheet, not just the upper portion.
