Data validation

I posted a question earlier about data validation being wiped out. As it
turns it only looks like they were wiped out - all the validations ARE still
there, but I no longer get the little arrow at the side when I select the
cells (so the validation lists are useless to me). IN-CELL dropdown is still
ticked but doesn't appear to work. SHeet is unprotected. Any ideas would be
very welcome indeed. Regards, Brett.

Hi,

For better explanation, you should have given some data reference along with
the formula you are using. I believe, you can use offset function to
accomplish this task.

Thanks.

Maybe you have set Objects to hidden in Excel Options?

2003.............Tools>Options>View

2007............Office Button>Excel Options>Advanced>Display Options for
This Workbook

I have had the same thing happen to me. I am using Excel 2003 and have
several data validation boxes and have suddenly lost the drop down arrow. I
have In-Cell drop down selected but no arrows.

Hi Lainie, put EXACTLY the following into a search for a topic:
Deleting shapes with VB deletes cell validation as well. EH?

and you'll see the reasons why it happened. Bizarre. Regards, Brett

Hi Gord, thanks for you reply. Apparently it's a bit more sinister than that.
If you put exactly:
Deleting shapes with VB deletes cell validation as well. EH?
into a topic search you'll get the reasons why.

Hey Gord, I never thought the day would come when Brett Gregory, Mortgage
Broker in Australia and COBOL dinosaur from a previous life would be able to
tell Gord Dibben, legendary Excel MVP (you are held in very high esteem on
this site, and no doubt amongst your peers)...anything new about Excel. Well
I'll be damned.
Mind you, I'm only passing info on, it's not like I thought of it or
anything!

On another matter, I've been trying to work out why, when I open a folder
with =hyperlink all the subfolders then open up in a separate window. I have
"same window" checked in folder options. Do you have any clues please? (see,
back to my usual dopey ways).
Regards, Brett

I learn at least one thing new every day on these news groups.

Most times I learn that what I thought I knew was incorrect<g>

Today I learned that DV dropdowns are considered as shapes.

Thanks for the feedback.

And thank you for all your help over the last few years, as I retrain my
brain. Any clues on the folder opening problem (at the bottom of my last
reply)?

If "open in same window" is checked and you still get multiple windows I
wouldn't know where to go from there.
