Vaio Freezing. Not Sure Why

Hello,

I have a Vaio PCG-GRZ630 notebook that keeps freezing. The only thing I have
noticed is that the longer it has been powered off, the longer it will stay
on. Basically, if it has been off for a while (a day or so), I will be able
to boot into Windows, but it inevitably freezes. On the other hand, if it
has only been powered down for a few minutes, when I turn the power on, it
wont even get to the Sony splash screen. That said, I am thinking it is
some sort of hardware issue. As usual, I went to Sony's site for some
support, and as usual, I could not find anything (I cant stand their site).
Any ideas on where I can start poking around here or any ideas as to what is
going wrong? Hardware is not my specialty, so I am at a loss. Any help would
be most appreciated. Thanks,

Chris

If you have any pc-cards installed, try taking them out one at a time.
Sometimes a bad card can make the system freeze.

Jesper,

Thanks for the response. No cards installed at all. The only thing I did was
take the battery from another Vaio (batteries were compatible) which was
working and place it in this one. When I get another battery in a few days,
I will try that, but I dont think that could be it. Any other ideas? Thanks,

Chris

Remove the battery; it will run without it on AC power. Does it change
the performance?

http://pub173.ezboard.com/bunofficialsony might offer some advice.

No luck on the battery issue, I had actually tried it before, but just to be
sure, I tried it again. Thanks for the link. I am currently looking on that
site to figure out how to upgrade/flash the bios. I cant find anything yet,
but I am sure I will. If you have any other ideas, please let me know.
Thanks again,

Chris

Thanks for the thought. I am trying to do that now. I have never done it
before and could use some tips if you have any? Right now, I am looking at
laptopbios.com. Thanks,

Chris

You can also try to remove one of the RAM chips (with power off) (on the
bottom of the laptop) and then power the system on with only one RAM chip
installed.
It could be a bad RAM-chip.

Your machine used to function with the existing bios. Something
else is wrong. Don't confuse the issue by altering a portion that
is known to work, i.e. the bios.

Your original symptom may indicate a heat problem of some sort.
Maybe there is a fan on the CPU which has failed. This would be
consistent with shutting down quicker when warmer.

Don't toppost. The result is an incoherent mess. Your answer
belongs after, or possibly intermixed with, the material to which
you respond after snipping out portions not germane to your reply.
But to snip properly you need an understandable quote, which you
don't get if someone has topposted to it.

I pulled each out and tried (one at a time). No luck. I appreciate the
thought though.
