V.92 Modem

W

worried

Hello all,
I hope I have the correct spot for my question!
My (internal) V.90 Modem went out on me,so I bought a V.92
Modem,(internal)but I see now(after install) it's a 56K
PCI Faxmodem for Windows.
I do run XP Home, and it's really slow,
and I'm wondering if I have the wrong Modem?
Thanks for any info..

Your old modem was also a 56K PCI Faxmodem.. V.92 just adds features that
were not available on your old one..

Thank you Mike,
then I bought the right choice,it still is a little
slow, even after the updates.Only make it to 44kbps
instead of the old 52 kbps.

I have an Intel 536EP 56k faxmodem.. it works best with the drivers supplied
on the cd (vers. 4.43).. it connects for the most part at 50.6, and at other
times 46.6.. the moral here is that newer drivers may not always work best..
any attempt to use a newer driver commits it to a max of 46.6.. try other
drivers for your modem and see if it makes any difference..

Carl,
assuming you downloaded the ControlCenter, which I did,
and then updater the driver, helped a great deal.
I'm now up to 46.26kbps...Hope this helps.

Thanks Mike,
I guess there is still much to learn, always thought it had
to be the exact same Modem, and the driver that came with
it.
