I'm utterly confused about USMT. In preparation for upgrading from Windows
2000 to Windows XP, I ran the USMT on the Windows 2000 installation. Stored
the generated file (~1GB), and installed XP. Then I re-ran the USMT and
loaded the stored image. And... that's all that happened. It created all
the user folders in the Documents and Settings file, then left it at that.
No user accounts were created, so the profile folders just sit there. I
tried setting up the accounts in XP exactly as they existed in 2000, but it
just ended up being a mess. XP kept adding .<network name> to the end of
all the -new- profile folders each account received, and wouldn't use the
existing profile folders unless I hacked the registry. I can't find
anything about whether the USMT should/doesn't create all old user accounts.
Am I missing something? Does the USMT documentation tell how to correctly
reestablish all the user accounts?
