Windows XP Usmt 2.6

I am going to be leading a team researching the value of using the usmt 2.6. We currently have a Ris server that we load a couple of images for all our new workstations once the image is completed and we have joined our AD Domain we run a Vb script to load all drivers to the workstation. Upon completion of drivers the machine reboots and installs standard software from Active directory. (Nortons, office 2003,etc.) Now we want to take it a little further by using the USMT feature, capture data from the old workstation to stream line the build even further. How effective was the USMT tool when used on a mass scale? Where are you keeping the capture data stored? Has it been an effective tool? Has it saved you anytime? Looking for someone with experience on multiple workstations!!!
