I'm creating a document in MSWord 2000 and I keep getting an error message
flash on the screen that says "some new features in Microsoft Word 2000
aren’t supported in previous versions of Word. To make sure that documents
appear correctly in earlier versions of Word, formatting that isn't supported
can be removed and replaced with formatting that is supported".. Now, I DID
use WIN98SE, with Word 97 prior to installing XP Home Edition about 11 months
ago..is there any suggestions? Do I need to uninstall Win 98SE components?
My frustration at having this error message continually (even when composing
a letter with new graphics) has reached it's top!!! Searches in MS website
have produced nothing of value.. Thanks

Two possibilities come to mind:
1. The document is currently saved as a Word 6.0/95 document instead of a
Word document. To change this, click on File | Save As | Save as type: Word
document | OK.
2. Click on Tools | Options | Save | uncheck the "Disable features
introduced after" box | OK. (Not sure if this option is available in Word
2000.)

Thanks 'garfield-n-odie' - I did already have this 'unchecked'...meanwhile, I
re-opened a document I was using during the error message....and once, again,
it came up with the error message. I'll go back to the drawing board and
create a brand new document and do the File-SaveAs- etc. and see what happens
this time. Gotta love it when it works...damn it when it doesn't!!!

When do you encounter the message specifically?

Do you encounter the message if you start Word using the /a switch? Go
to Start/Run and run:

winword /a

Note the space before the forward slash.

This sounds suspiciously like one of those 'helpful' messages from the help
assistant. With the help assistant displayed, right click it and select
'options'. Turn off most of the stuff there - especially the bits about
'tips'! I don't have Word 2000 available to give you the exact dialog
information.
