Using Windows Indexing service with FP2002

Tom Miller

My main hobby site lives on 2 virtual servers. www.chatnfiles.com and
files.chatnfiles.com The 2nd (files.) server is setup to allow directory
browse. The webmaster and I haven't figured out how to do that in 1
website.

I now have files.htm description pages in about 80-90% of the sub-dirs with
..zip files in them. I want to use the Indexing service to provide end-users
with easy access to a keyword/file name search. Once the indexing is done
FP has this nice component to support the search.

But Frontpage wants to put an index/default page in the root of
files.chatnfiles.com which would interfere with the directory browsing (I
think). But it looks as if the page that the directory search component
lives on has to be loading from the files.chatnfiles.com website.

How do I work around this? I want to have both the dynamically created
directory browse page available and to turn the files.chatnfiles.com site
into a fpse/fp2002 site so I can use the search component?

Hope I'm clear.

You could use ASP to generate a directory listing, and yes the FP search
component must be within the web or you can use ASP to interface directly
with Index Server.

For help with Index Server, visit the Index Server newsgroup.

For help with generating a directly listing with ASP, see:

If you create a folder in your site www.chatnfiles.com say "files" and right click it to convert it to a web, then in IIS you can
turn on Directory browsing in the new subweb www.chatnfiles.com/files/
- in IIS select the subweb folder "files" and right click for properties
