Using Win Zip 12.0

J

Jerry

I am trying to compress files using Win Zip 12.0. There are two modes to
choose from. They are Win Zip Classic and Wizard. Win Zip classic mode
seems to be a more advanced version of the above two mentioned. It offers
more options to work with. Win Zip 12.0 is much more different than earlier
versions. I am not uderstanding how to use the 12.0 version classic or
wizard. Can all give me a link to learn of Win Zip 12.0 Classic? Thank
you.

It's all covered in "help"

however, XP already has zip capabilities
so you did not need to install a 3rd party utility

You don't "need" to even use XP. Or Linux. You don't "need" a lot of
things. But sometimes they present some substantial advantages and are
quite useful.

XP's native zip capabilities are mediocre and not even to the "legacy"
level - the highest compression all zip programs can work with. And it
offers little of the control or bells & whistles of winzip 12 nor the
very tight compression algos should you wish to use them. XPs version
of zip is targetted toward a more confined use where winzip is much more
generalized and offers many more capabilities.
XP's zip capabilities are very useful in the way they are used and
for the purposes it was provided for. But Winzip gives the users a lot
more control and power over their compression and encryption work and
avoid having to mess with certificataes as EFS requires, plus a lot more
things.

The "classic" mode simply means the old interface of past WinZip
products; some people don't like the new interface at first.

What version of Winzip did you upgrade from? Both the classic and
wizard interfaces have been around for ages. While I am at 11.0
instead of 12, the basics don't seem to have changed other than adding
new features. What are you trying to do and what problem are you
having?
