Using Vista Premium for presentations

Currently I am using Vista Basic. It can make slide shows, but they are
visible only on the computer they're created on and with limited control.

I need to give a presentation in July. Can the Premium version be used to do
a presentation? Or do I need a program like Power Point.

My other interest in Premium is the ability to save slide shows to DVD.
Basic doesn't have that feature.

Thanks

And how are you making these "slides" in Vista?

Would be helpful to know what complexity of slide shows you desire.

Vista Home Premium comes with Movie Maker (I don't know if Basic does
or not) with it you can make basic if somewhat crude slide shows and
no frills movies. The Premium version of Vista also comes with DVD
Maker, while curiously the Business version (which I have) does not.
In either case if your interest in making DVD's you can do way better
than Microsoft products which are crude, cumbersome and often fail
somewhere in the DVD create or authoring process, so can be very
frustrating.

Something like Power Point while good for business presentations and
the like isn't cheap and may not do all the things you wish. There are
many other products on the market much better/cheaper again depending
on what you have in mind.

I'm not sure what you're using to make your presentation. That kind of
thing is normally done with a program like Power Point. That's quite
expensive, of course, and you may find everything you need in the free
Open Office suite (www.openoffice.org). It includes a presentation
manager called Impress
(http://www.openoffice.org/product/impress.html)

Thanks to you both. The "slides" are photos. I can't make text slides in
Basic. I guess that's one thing I was wondering about as per using Premium.
Tim, you are the third person to recommend openoffice.org. Guess I should
give it a try.
